It has been my ultimate goal to travel to as many places as I can while I am still young, wild, and free (lol). As my husband would say, “Joy, we did it!” We made the sacrifices and we went through the FIRE of life. We stayed the course with God’s help and now we are reaping the blessings of our labor. The journey has begun! Will off season traveling be a part of our journey?
Back Story
My husband was afforded the opportunity to fly from continent to continent visiting countries and performing his military duties. He spent 26 years in the military traveling to and fro while I was holding it down at home with the kiddos and working to retire from my own career (and I did).
One thing I could count on during my husband’s travels was a magnet from the country he visited (if he could get it and sometimes that was not the case if you know what I mean). The side of my refrigerator is full of magnets of where he has been and that gift was a way for me to travel the world with him vicariously.
However, one day we were conversing with one another and I told him that I needed him to promise that once he retired we would travel together. I wanted to see different places too whether it was in the US (the country we live in) or travel abroad.
The Journey Began

I am so happy to say that 2021 began our journey. Although it has not been that long, the places we have traveled to has been breathtaking. The planning and the romantic feel of everything has been well thought out. All I can say is I give all the praise for the blessings that we are receiving to God.
However, traveling on your own dime can be expensive. You have to save, plan, save, plan and do that all over again each time you travel. Nevertheless, if traveling is what you want to do, do it the smart way. As my husband and I continue traveling, I have noticed that off season traveling gives you more for your buck. If you are a planner and a person who don’t want to splurge all the time, try off season traveling.
The information I have below for off season traveling will get you ready for a fun-filled excursion to some far away place.
Benefits of Off Season Traveling

Off season depends upon the area you are trying to visit. On one side of the world, it may be busy or high season in December. On the other side of the world, it may be off or low season.
Oh, The Choices We Have
As we are planning our vacations, I am beginning to look at off season traveling more. It’s better for my pocket.

During off season traveling…
✅You have less crowds.
✅Have a more authentic experience or you experience your destination like the locals.
✅Hotels, Motels, Holiday Inn (lol…Just part of a song I remember) But anyway, hotels and airbnb rates are drastically reduced. Availability is a sure thing.
✅Flights to certain areas are less crowded on the plane. The price is truly cheaper. You might even get a first class seat for a cheaper price. Do your research.
✅There’s cheaper food too. Disclaimer: Be careful with this one. Sometimes the hired staff during off season are not as good as staff that are there during high season. In my opinion, some of the places I‘ve visited just didn’t care to give you great customer service during off season. I’m a foodie, so this was something I was not pleased with.
I love to travel with my hubby or with family. What I am learning throughout my chase (Biggest Joy Chaser, That’s Me) is that whatever the experience is, embrace it, make memories, and keep doing what is making you happy. It doesn’t come easy for most, so dive in when you get there, and keep chasing after joy.
