Marching to the Beat of my own Drum

I am marching to the beat of my own drum.

How many times have we all said that? Can the statement, “marching to the beat of my own drum” be overrated or do we actually believe without a shadow of a doubt that we march to the beat of our own drum.

It takes a strong personality and a passionate person to begin that march. Some people say that marching to the beat of your own drum describes someone with a negative attitude, a show off, possibly arrogant, and a bully to some aspect. Well, I tend to disagree.

It took me a long time…

…to march to the beat of my own drum. To be frank, I was a person who would listen quietly to the advice of others who didn’t have my best interest at heart. During my adult life, I yearned for the opinion of others while hesitating to make decisions. Also, I believed I was not a  confident person unless someone said that I was. However, my confidence have changed and I had to make up my mind to say…

Hold Up, Wait A Minute…

This was not the life that was intended for me. Get it together, Joy. Now Repeat this…… Get it together (plug in your name right now). We shouldn’t live for anyone else. You should live for who you want to be. Is this a hard concept? No worries, challenge yourself.

Don’t believe the hype and believe that if you march to the beat of your own drum, people will think that you are a negative, arrogant person. As a matter of fact, you want to be strong, courageous, independent, and the list can go on. You want to be able to march…. Rum A Pum, Pum, Pum to your own drum.

Marching to the beat of your own drum is knowing  who you really are, understanding the desires of your own heart, and chasing joy within. When I first developed the attitude of marching to the beat of my own drum, I thought about the chorus part of the song “I’m every woman… It’s all in me.” Yep it is!

• You chose what works for you.

• You don’t let others persuade their way if you it’s not for you.

• You are Beyond the status quo.

• You are liberated from self sabotage and people’s opinions.
